Zoom

Updated 2/1/2023

Zoom has reinstated the 40-minute time limit on all meetings associated with free (basic) Zoom accounts. Most students and guests have basic Zoom accounts and will see meetings that they initiate limited to 40 minutes with a Zoom enforced cut off.  If students are simply attending a Zoom meeting scheduled or initiated by a faculty or staff member, they will not see a time limit.

All Creighton faculty and staff are eligible for Zoom Pro licensing and are exempt from this time limit.  However, to ensure you as faculty or staff are using a Zoom Pro account, please log into creighton.zoom.us using your NETID@creighton.edu and Blue Password before you begin your Zoom meeting.  If not logged in correctly this could affect your meetings.

If you encounter problems after logging in, please contact the myIT Service Desk at servicedesk@creighton.edu or call 402-280-1111 or 800-329-1011.

FAQ’s

  • Can I use my Mac or iPhone/iPad with Zoom?

Yes.  Zoom is hosted in the cloud and provided as a web-based service, so it can be accessed using a PC, Mac, IOS or Android devices.

  • What is the difference between Zoom and Teams?

Zoom is recommended for running conferences or large online meetings.  It is an effective collaborative environment for use with both students and colleagues. While Microsoft Teams is recommended as the application of choice for daily communications with your office co-workers and invited non-CU colleagues, Zoom is appropriate for larger events with outside guests.

  • My audio and video keep breaking up while I'm using Zoom. How do I improve my audio and video experience in Zoom?

Zoom recommends using a hard wired internet connection instead of wireless for the best Zoom experience.  If at all possible, plug in your ethernet cable to improve the quality of the audio and video in Zoom.

  • Is Creighton's Zoom HIPAA compliant?

Yes, Creighton has a HIPAA compliant Zoom site located at  https://creightonhipaa.zoom.us.  This is only recommended for those who are required to use HIPAA compliant software for web conferencing. This may include, but is not limited to, people in Student Health and Counseling, our researchers and our clinics.  A HIPAA Zoom license is only needed for the meeting or event organizer.  For full details on the use of HIPAA compliant Zoom, please review the HIPAA Zoom Instructions.

  • .What is the difference between a co-host and an alternate host?

A co-host cannot start a meeting. If a host needs someone else to start the meeting, they can assign an alternative host.  An alternative host: shares the same controls as co-hosts, but can also start the meeting.

  • .What is Zoombombing?

“Zoombombing” is when an uninvited person joins a Zoom meeting. This is usually done in an attempt to gain a few cheap laughs at the expense of the participants. Zoombombers often hurl racial slurs or profanity, or share pornography and other offensive imagery.  For help with best practices to prevent Zoombombing.  check out the documents listed above.

Policies
